Kodály’s methodology to teach singing and music theory in kindergarten and primary school education


Abstract | الملخص

Sultan Kodály is a musician and researcher in music education field, who emphasized the importance of music in the development of sense and character building of the child. This study aimed at elaborating the methodology followed by Kodály in implementing folk music in teaching singing as well as some musical theories for children in kindergarten and primary education at school. The study also aimed at emphasizing the importance of preserving folklore music and its role in educational process. Adopting the analytical method by analyzing the Kodály theory and interpretation of the results guaranteed to understand and make proposals to employ them, the researchers achieved in this study some important results; The folk song is an essential factor and plays important role in teaching theories of music, music playing, singing, and the most important ear training and music appreciation. It should be given for children at an early age. The researcher end this search with some recommendations; the need to include folk-music teaching at schools, the need to train school teachers on the use of Kodály method.
