Abstract | الملخص

This Paper investigates the meaning of the word Saracens and its use in Roman, Byzantine and Syriac historical sources in addition to their relation with Roman and Byzantine empires during third and fourth centuries AD. Also, it deals with the development of the meaning of the word during successive historical periods and inner and outer limes. The research deals with description of Byzantine Historians to the Saracens and the spread of Roman and Byzantine forts and military units along the eastern border from Syria in the north to Wadi Al-Hasa in the south.
