The Art of the Essay by Mustafa Sadiq Al-Rifai'i
Abstract | الملخص
This research aims to study the art of the essay by Mustafa Sadiq Al-Rafi'I, one of the most prominent writers of essay in Modern Arabic Literature. He had prolific production of this art, especially in his book (the Inspiration of the Pen). This study also endeavors to explore the sources of the essay and its purposes according to Al-Rafi'i. The topics of this essay vary and they include different aspects of knowledge. The purposes of the essay can be divided into: critical Islamic, social, political and descriptive ones. Moreover, the study attempts to explain the important technical features of the essay according to Al-Rafi'i as they appear in his various essays. The study draws on the technical approach to achieve its aims. Therefore, the text is analyzed based on two views: subjective and objective. That is, focusing on the self-influenced of the text, the objective text elements and technical assets.
