Women’s Issues in Islamic Education Textbooks for the Higher Basic Stage in Jordan


Abstract | الملخص

This study aimed at exploring women’s issues in Islamic education textbooks for the higher basic stage in Jordan. The study sample was deliberately chosen and included seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth grade textbooks. In order to achieve the study aim, a 70-item analytic list, which included five domains, was designed by the author. The instrument validity and reliabity were guaranteed. The analytic list was applied as a criterion for the textbooks content analysis and data collection. The results of the study revealed that: The paragraphs related to women’s issues in the four textbooks amounted to 210 paragraphs out of 3933,with a percentage of 5.33 and frequency 445 times. Among the four Islamic education textbooks the paragraphs that discussed women’s issues were included most in eighth-grade, seventh-grade, night-grade and lastly tenth-grade. The important topics related women’s issues were humanities issues, social issues, economic issues, political issues, and finally legality of women issues. More units offered topics related women’s issues were the Islamic system and Islamic morality, the Biography of the prophet, jurisprudence, Hadith, Holy Quran, Islamic faith. Most women’s issues subjects were mentioned in the paragraphs content then the sub title, and finally in the main titles. Finally, the researcher recommended that the authors of islamic education textbooks should pay more attention to women’s issues when they prepare such textbooks.
